Roast Rack of Lamb with a Garlic Crust

November 10, 2017

Roast Rack of Lamb with a Garlic Crust | Jessica's Dinner Party

This post is part of a 30th birthday dinner party series.

I hosted a 30th birthday dinner for a dear friend last week and served this juicy roast rack of lamb as the main dish. I wanted a strong centerpiece that would root the whole table together and this lamb fit the bill perfectly. Of everything I cooked that night, this recipe was hands down the easiest. With only 4 ingredients (or 6 if you include salt and pepper) it comes together quickly and makes for a great showstopper.

Chestnut Macarons

Chestnut Macarons by Jessica's Dinner Party

Until I moved to Paris, chestnuts didn’t hold any holiday significance to me.  But two winters of seeing marrons glacés everywhere changed me for the better and now I can truly relate to the words of “chestnuts roasting on an open fire…” It’s Christmas Eve so I’ll keep this post short and sweet.  These macarons make up the last third of my cookie list this year.  The filling is by far the easiest thing, and although used for macarons here, I can imagine it going well with any sort of wafer, shortbread, or vanilla cake. It may not be the day to try making macarons for the first time, but if, by any chance, there is a can of crème de marron lying around, this is definitely something that can be made in a pinch.  Oh, and there’s butter involved…but who DOESN’T have that lying around?

Sparkly Double Chocolate Cookies

Sparkly Double Chocolate Cookies | Jessica's Dinner Party

My favorite cover of the now defunct Gourmet magazine is a red December issue featuring a variety of holiday cookies and sweets.  I bought the issue at a time when buying magazines were still a big deal to me.  It wasn’t that I didn’t have a few extra dollars to spare, but just that I valued the content of a monthly publication just as much as a cookbook worth ten times more.  I’m not as frugal when it comes to purchasing food publications anymore.  I probably buy cookbooks more often now than I bought magazines back then, but I do find that the books and periodicals I took a lot of time pondering over, sometimes for days and weeks at a time, are the ones I come back to most often.  With all the content available online now, the value of holding onto one magazine issue isn’t as high as it used to be, but still every winter, right before Christmastime, I go back to this red December issue of Gourmet and find inspiration from it over and over again. This year, the second cookie from my cookie box is the double chocolate cookie featured beautifully as part of the cover spread. I’ve been tempted to make these for awhile now…more accurately since I first laid eyes on this issue, but not until this year that I muster my way around to it.

Rosemary Shortbread this Christmas

December 22, 2013

Rosemary Shortbread for Christmas by Jessica's Dinner Party

It’s become a little tradition of mine to bake Christmas gifts for family and friends. I have to admit, homemade gifts are a lot of time and effort,  but the joy I get from seeing someone enjoy something I’ve made pales in comparison to the sweat that goes into it!  There are an endless amount of ideas as to what to give for the holidays, but this year I decided to be traditional and make cookies.  During the few days left leading up to Christmas I’ll share with you the trio of cookies I made for my gift box.  Here is this first, my favorite rosemary shortbread.

Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) It's about the smash cake I made for my baby's 1st birthday--an easy recipe made with wholesome ingredients and sweetened with fruits only.

Even though the cake has no butter, oil, and refined sugar, it still has great bounce and fluff 💫. I frosted it with whipped, unsweetened Greek yogurt and heavy cream, and my baby loved digging into it on her birthday (see last photo).

The cake also makes a nice snack or breakfast. For that, I skip the frosting and serve plain or I'll make little cake balls with Greek yogurt and hemp seeds which makes it even more filling and nutritious 😋.

This recipe is super quick and simple, and there are a lot of different variations that can be made--all of which are written out in my post. Check out the recipe from the link in my profile!

First bake post baby! I had to restart midway beca First bake post baby! I had to restart midway because I forgot the sugar 🤦🏻‍♀️. I almost quit because time was running out until the next 🤱🏻 and I still needed to finish up some other chores and food prep for the week. But I’m so happy I made it happen—even though the result wasn’t perfect. I’ve been wanting/needing to scratch that baking itch for awhile now 🙃. Any guesses on what I made? 🌽
Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two m Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two months being spoiled and taken care of by my mom. During that time I learned so much from her on how to be a mom and cook her food—the best in my opinion 😆.

This is my attempt at the 떡만두국, tteok mandu guk, rice cake and 🥟 soup, that she taught me. It’s not quite the same, but hoping that one day my cooking will be as comforting and special to my daughter the way my mom’s is to me 💗.

At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 f At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 felt like it was going to be special--it definitely ended up being special for a wide spectrum of reasons.

It's been a tough year to say the least, but I hope everyone is able to find a silver lining in all of this. For me, it was having the space to enjoy my pregnancy quietly and with those closest around me, and giving birth to a healthy baby during a pandemic.

I don't know what's in store for 2021, but I think I'd be ok if it was a little less explosive than this year 🤣.
