Greek Yogurt Buttermilk Dressing

Greek Yogurt Buttermilk Dressing | Jessica's Dinner Party

This post is part of a 30th birthday dinner party series.

Oftentimes, salad is the most uninspired dish in my dinner spread. I usually just toss some greens with a simple vinaigrette, but I wanted to try something different so I went digging for inspiration online. I came across this article on Bon Appetit that mentioned something called a “hand salad,” basically a crudité with romaine leaves and Greek yogurt dressing. Apparently some of the editors weren’t into the concept, but I fell in love with it. It sounded perfect for a dinner where guests slowly trickle in and I felt like it would be a dish that would keep the party going until well into the night (ever hear of second wind?). I used the recipe in the article as a starting point and eventually came up with a Greek Yogurt Buttermilk Dressing with chives and garlic that tastes rich but is actually quite healthy.

Roast Rack of Lamb with a Garlic Crust

Roast Rack of Lamb with a Garlic Crust | Jessica's Dinner Party

This post is part of a 30th birthday dinner party series.

I hosted a 30th birthday dinner for a dear friend last week and served this juicy roast rack of lamb as the main dish. I wanted a strong centerpiece that would root the whole table together and this lamb fit the bill perfectly. Of everything I cooked that night, this recipe was hands down the easiest. With only 4 ingredients (or 6 if you include salt and pepper) it comes together quickly and makes for a great showstopper.

Chamomile Honey Almond Cake Inspired by Rupi Kaur

October 25, 2017

chamomile honey almond cake, honey, chamomile, almond, cake, almond meal, easy, wholesome, fast, healing, rupi kaur, the sun and her flowers, milk and honey, poetry, poems

It’s been an interesting year for me with a lot of emotional ups and downs. For some reason, turing 30 suddenly made me feel very inadequate in both my personal and professional lives. I know there are no standardized life metrics, but I can’t help but feel like I’m not quite the person I thought I’d be by now. I’m not as accomplished or knowledgeable as I want to be and I wish I had my life a little bit more figured out.

Maybe this is a mini midlife crises?

Pumpkin Coffee Muffins

October 13, 2017

pumpkin coffee muffins, pumpkin spice, fall, recipe, coffee flour, muffins, baking, easy

I’m embarrassed to admit, but I love it when pumpkin spice products overflow the market. To me it 1. signifies the return of fall, 2. allows me to officially bring out the sweaters and scarves (although I haven’t been able to wear them quite yet in LA), and 3. reminds me of my best friend (a pumpkin spice mega fan) who’s still off living the dream in Europe. There are a ton of pumpkin spice products beckoning for your dollars. Some are ridiculous (like this one) and others just funny (like this guy), but I’m putting a recipe out there for those who want to make something good, clean, and a little different using coffee flour.

Patatas Bravas

May 22, 2014

patatas bravas | jessica's dinner party

I don’t really consider myself a wild and adventurous person.  If anything, people would describe me as the exact opposite: quiet and the biggest homebody.  I’m the first one to slip away from a party, and for as long as I can remember I like to be in bed by 11. But despite my natural inclinations towards being such a square, there’s a fiery side to me that absolutely can’t stand the routine way in which I choose to live my daily life.  That side of me pushes against my rigid shell and sporadically makes me do (crazy) things like go to Oktoberfest semi-alone, and jump off a cliff somewhere off the Dalmatian coast (it was a mini cliff). I’m always extremely grateful for these experiences in hindsight, and I admit the most significant decisions of my life have been masterminded by the “other” me (ie. moving to Paris and pursuing a career in food).  I’ve come to think of this side not so much as an alter-ego, but just my gut telling me to take on a daunting but equally exciting challenge. One I know will make me a better person (whatever that means!).

Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) It's about the smash cake I made for my baby's 1st birthday--an easy recipe made with wholesome ingredients and sweetened with fruits only.

Even though the cake has no butter, oil, and refined sugar, it still has great bounce and fluff 💫. I frosted it with whipped, unsweetened Greek yogurt and heavy cream, and my baby loved digging into it on her birthday (see last photo).

The cake also makes a nice snack or breakfast. For that, I skip the frosting and serve plain or I'll make little cake balls with Greek yogurt and hemp seeds which makes it even more filling and nutritious 😋.

This recipe is super quick and simple, and there are a lot of different variations that can be made--all of which are written out in my post. Check out the recipe from the link in my profile!

First bake post baby! I had to restart midway beca First bake post baby! I had to restart midway because I forgot the sugar 🤦🏻‍♀️. I almost quit because time was running out until the next 🤱🏻 and I still needed to finish up some other chores and food prep for the week. But I’m so happy I made it happen—even though the result wasn’t perfect. I’ve been wanting/needing to scratch that baking itch for awhile now 🙃. Any guesses on what I made? 🌽
Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two m Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two months being spoiled and taken care of by my mom. During that time I learned so much from her on how to be a mom and cook her food—the best in my opinion 😆.

This is my attempt at the 떡만두국, tteok mandu guk, rice cake and 🥟 soup, that she taught me. It’s not quite the same, but hoping that one day my cooking will be as comforting and special to my daughter the way my mom’s is to me 💗.

At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 f At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 felt like it was going to be special--it definitely ended up being special for a wide spectrum of reasons.

It's been a tough year to say the least, but I hope everyone is able to find a silver lining in all of this. For me, it was having the space to enjoy my pregnancy quietly and with those closest around me, and giving birth to a healthy baby during a pandemic.

I don't know what's in store for 2021, but I think I'd be ok if it was a little less explosive than this year 🤣.
