Troppo Gelato in Italia

August 3, 2012

italy, firenze, florence, bologna, gelato, reviews, travel, europe, eats, jessica's dinner party

It’s hard to choose favorites when it comes to all the different trips I’ve taken, but my trip to Bologna and Florence stands as one of the most memorable.  The sites were just as beautiful as I imagined them to be and the weather was even hotter than what my dad claimed Italian summers to be. But aside from all that, Italy was the most memorable because of all the gelato tasting we did!  32 flavors in three days between two girls (plus the daily three meals plus snacks and nibbles)…need I even state the obvious: we are gluttons!

Moroccan in Paris

July 24, 2012

au p'tit cahoua, moroccan, restaurant, review, paris

Before my mind completely moves away from Europe, I thought I’d do some catch up posts on place I never got to write about.  I have tons of forgotten trips, restaurants, and patisseries that are just itching to be posted.  I probably won’t get around to all of them this summer (seriously, there are so many!), but maybe some of those are supposed to be saved for nostalgic days.

Petits Voyages: Lille

June 10, 2012

lille, jessica's dinner party, travel, europe, restaurant, eats, day trip, review, france, la bottega, pizza

Out of the three mini trips I did during the past few weeks, I was probably most enamored by Lille.  The Flemish brick lined architecture and cute narrow streets made me feel like I was truly transported into my imagination of what small European towns are supposed to look like. Quant and so adorable, half the time I felt like I was walking on a prop set.

Lunch at Coutume

January 20, 2012

coutume, paris, cafe, lunch

Last term, I serendipitously got to know a fellow blogger at school.  It was especially serendipitous for me because that morning I had forgotten to bring my pants to school and was freaking out.  Not my best moment, especially with the addition of unnecessary expletives that I rarely use, but someone took pity on me and lent a complete stranger their neatly pressed pants.  I couldn’t thank her enough (more so because if it weren’t for her, I would’ve had to miss at least two out of three classes that day just to go back home and get my pants) and as we tried to figure out when our schedules would next collide, I told her my name to which she connected with Jessica’s Dinner Party!  I was even more embarrassed at that point, but I shook it off and realized that you never know who, when, or where someone can help you. Ever since then I’ve been meaning to properly thank her, but it didn’t happen until months later…today.

La Petite Rose

December 4, 2011

It’s been my general goal to visit all the renowned patisseries in Paris before I leave, however, I’ve slowed down quite a bit since I first arrived. My “To Visit” list is ever growing, but my lack of progress is quite embarrassing.  It’s a combination of knowing there’s always tomorrow, the fact that I like revisiting places I already know, and lastly because I don’t like to go to patisseries by myself.  All of those reasons canceled out when a couple of my friends and I made it a point to visit La Petite Rose before I go to Korea for the holidays.

Tried something new yesterday 🍞🎞🎬! Tried something new yesterday 🍞🎞🎬!
Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) Heyyyy I wrote a post! (Yes...it's been a while.) It's about the smash cake I made for my baby's 1st birthday--an easy recipe made with wholesome ingredients and sweetened with fruits only.

Even though the cake has no butter, oil, and refined sugar, it still has great bounce and fluff 💫. I frosted it with whipped, unsweetened Greek yogurt and heavy cream, and my baby loved digging into it on her birthday (see last photo).

The cake also makes a nice snack or breakfast. For that, I skip the frosting and serve plain or I'll make little cake balls with Greek yogurt and hemp seeds which makes it even more filling and nutritious 😋.

This recipe is super quick and simple, and there are a lot of different variations that can be made--all of which are written out in my post. Check out the recipe from the link in my profile!

First bake post baby! I had to restart midway beca First bake post baby! I had to restart midway because I forgot the sugar 🤦🏻‍♀️. I almost quit because time was running out until the next 🤱🏻 and I still needed to finish up some other chores and food prep for the week. But I’m so happy I made it happen—even though the result wasn’t perfect. I’ve been wanting/needing to scratch that baking itch for awhile now 🙃. Any guesses on what I made? 🌽
Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two m Happy Lunar New Year 🐂!! I spent the last two months being spoiled and taken care of by my mom. During that time I learned so much from her on how to be a mom and cook her food—the best in my opinion 😆.

This is my attempt at the 떡만두국, tteok mandu guk, rice cake and 🥟 soup, that she taught me. It’s not quite the same, but hoping that one day my cooking will be as comforting and special to my daughter the way my mom’s is to me 💗.

At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 f At the beginning of this year, I wrote that 2020 felt like it was going to be special--it definitely ended up being special for a wide spectrum of reasons.

It's been a tough year to say the least, but I hope everyone is able to find a silver lining in all of this. For me, it was having the space to enjoy my pregnancy quietly and with those closest around me, and giving birth to a healthy baby during a pandemic.

I don't know what's in store for 2021, but I think I'd be ok if it was a little less explosive than this year 🤣.
